ITALY
Italy is an established school tour destination, offering unparalleled opportunities in the study of language, history, art appreciation, the classics and sightseeing. From the ruins of Pompeii and the majestic Vesuvius in the south, coupled with the many treasures of Rome, to the glorious Renaissance city of Florence and the Byzantine treasures of Venice in the north, Italy is a destination of considerable educational content.
Tuscany
Fabulous beaches, spectacular scenery and a wonderful climate are all part of the allure to Tuscany. Discover the superb walled town of Siena, the individual charm of Pisa, the enchanting resort of Lucca, Puccini's birthplace. Artists are spellbound by Florence, with its incredible range of frescoes and galleries. Visit Casa Buonarotti, home of Michelangelo's early works, stand amazed at Brunelleschi's fresco of the Last Judgement featured on the Dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Wander in awe around the Uffizi, home to Italy's main collection of paintings, and surround yourself with the masterpieces of Botticelli, Raphael, Michelangelo, Tintoretto, Canaletto and dozens of other great artists. You simply can't miss Michelangelo's towering figure David, which exerts a truly magnetic force on spectators. Through classroom knowledge, 'live appreciation' and an understanding of context, students can form a personal response to these great works.
Rome/ Sorrento
This two-centre adventure combining the wealth of art, architecture and ancient remains of Rome with towering Mount Vesuvius and the dramatic coastline of Sorrento is an unmissable experience for our groups. This tour is aimed at groups wanting a burst of contrasting experiences and who have an appetite for exploring!
An art-lovers paradise, Rome offers classical works and masterpieces by Bernini, Caravaggio, Raphael, Botticelli and Michelangelo, all within walking distance of each other. The fascinating underground catacombs, Colosseum and Trevi Fountain are all essential visits in this astonishing city.
The beautiful Sorrento peninsula also offers wonderful excursions for humanities students. A visit to the preserved city of Pompeii provides an insight into Roman settlements and going on to Mount Vesuvius is a great way of understanding living with hazardous environments; being on the crater rim will certainly bring learning to life! It's not all work though, the Magic World water park and Edenlandia theme park provide a chance for pupils (and teachers too!) to recharge their batteries.
