Argentina is the second largest country in South America and borders Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia and Paraguay. With an enormously varied climate, travelers can visit sub-Antarctic rainforests, tropical jungles, mountains, beaches, desert red canyons and awesome waterfalls. The bus system is one of the best in the world, offering movies, meals, and comfortable service to all areas. The population mix, as in Chile and Uruguay, is very different from the rest of Latin America because the population is almost all European. Most of the indigenous people were wiped out in wars during the 19th century.

Buenos Aires

With a population of nearly 11 million, Buenos Aires is surprisingly safe and clean. Possessing wide boulevards, an active nightlife, many restaurants and plenty of shopping, this cosmopolitan city has a strong European flavor and an endless variety of things to do. However, Buenos Aires can be an expensive city and budget groups should be prepared.

Cordoba

This city has a little of everything for visitors. Founded in 1573, Cordoba boasts many colonial style cathedrals and buildings. Like many other cities in Latin America built by the Spanish, the city was designed using a grid system and is void of intimidating skyscrapers making it easy to navigate despite its size (population 1.5 million). Cordoba is alive with a university town feel, offering many cultural activities and an active nightlife while still being one of Argentina’s most important industrial centers.

Mendoza

Located at the foot of the Andes, Mendoza lies in the heart of Argentina's wine producing region. This stylish and lively city has long been a popular starting point for travelers eager to visit the region's many vineyards, and climbing expeditions on route to Aconcagua, the world's highest peak outside of Asia. The city itself boasts fantastic shopping, dining and nightlife, as well as many cultural and historical sites of interest.

Patagonia/Bariloche

Sitting on the coast of Nahuel Huapi Lake, Bariloche is a popular alpine tourist center. It is often the base for visiting Nahuel Huapi National Park, one of the most spectacular national parks in Argentina. This proximity makes it an excellent desitnation for outdoor enthusiasts. During the winter months, many visitors flock to the region to visit Cerro Catedral, an international skiing center. The warmer months offer opportunities for climbing, hiking and fishing.
